One of the best parts of traveling in Romania is the people. You will find them welcoming, interested in you and where you come from, and very sweet. Please do not get me wrong...just as anywhere there will be people looking to take advantage of you and your tourist situation. In most cases I found people to be very warm and sincere. Most younger students or people in stores and cafes will speak a little English. I have found that they enjoy it and like to practice their skills. Most Romanians are excited to meet you and have you in their city. Especially when they find out that you are a tourist and not a missionary :-) Some will even be shocked. When you are there do not forget that you are a guest. Do not look down upon them as they may be richer in their lives than we could ever be in the US. Friends and family are the richest to be found from Romanians. They find the simple joys in life and do not let anything pass by them. I have learned a lot from my friends made there.

Oradea makes for a nice base camp while traveling Transylvania. You have easy rail transportation to Cluj ( College Town) Felix ( Great Thermal Bath) Sighiisora (Great Saxon fortress and birth place to Vlad) and on to Bran. There is also a nice rail connection to Budapest. There is a lot of history to be found in this area and should be enjoyed by a traveler and not a tourist. If you are looking for the comforts of home...stay home. If you are looking for adventure and life changing experiences, then book your ticket now. Since they have joined the EU, I have seen prices rocket.
