Ashland is on the (Am)tracks

Ashland Virginia is a great town to visit on your travels. If you are traveling down the eastern USA on Amtrak, you can find a safe hotel or motel within a safe mile (safe to walk) of the train station. Just walk 1/2 block south to England St, then walk about 1/2 mile to Rt 1. Keep walking (but be careful for American drivers and no sidewalks) and you will see many motels. The first one on your left will be the Hampton Inn. It is the most expensive, and very nice. After that is the Sleep Inn (new in 2007) on the left. Down about another 1/4 mile is a Holiday Inn Express on the left. There are other motels, too, but I don't want to recommend them, because they change ownership often.

Also, there is one very nice inn, The Henry Clay Inn, just across the street from the railroad station (It is rather expensive, but very nice).
