BEWARE "OVERBOOKINGS" and other Venice, Italy Hotel/Accommodation Reviews

DID NOT ACTUALLY STAY HERE, BECAUSE WE WERE TOLD THEY HAD HAD AN 'INTERNET' PROBLEM AND DID NOT HAVE OUR RESERVATION, ALTHOUGH IT WAS PREPAID.

UNDER DURESS, THEY CALLED ANOTHER HOTEL AND GOT US THEIR 'LAST ROOM' AND WERE ESCORTED THERE.

I HAD CHOSEN THIS HOTEL, AS IT WAS CLOSE TO THE TRAIN STATION, AND WOULD SAVE US A LOT OF TREKKING WHEN WE NEEDED TO DEPART. AS I HAVE A BACK PROBLEM, AND WE WERE ON ANOTHER LONG TRIP, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR MY HUSBAND TO HANDLE ALL OUR LUGGAGE, EVEN THOUGH WE BOTH ONLY CARRY 2 SMALL CASES. SO, WHEN WE WERE TAKEN SEVERAL BLOCKS AWAY, OVER A COUPLE OTHER CANALS, I WAS NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!!

THE NEW PLACE WAS REASONABLE, BUT NOT THE SAME AMENITIES, AND OUR ROOM HOUSED THE VALVE FOR PUMPING WATER TO THE ENTIRE HOTEL-----i.e., CONSTANTLY NOISY!!! We had to go back to the original reception area for this hotel (several blocks away) and request that it be turned off at night; which, surprisingly, it WAS!! But it was still very irritating at other times.

ALSO, WHEN WE WENT BACK TO EIDELWEISS SWISS, NEXT DAY, TO STAGE OUR LUGGAGE FOR DEPARTURE AT THE TRAIN STATION, THERE WAS ANOTHER COUPLE THERE, HAVING THE SAME SUPPOSED PROBLEM OF AN INTERNET BOOKING; MAKING ME RATHER SUSPICIOUS ABOUT THEIR PRACTICES, AS IT SEEMS THEY MAY NOT HVE TO PAY THE REPLACEMENT HOTEL AS MUCH AS HAS BEEN PAID THEM FOR THE ORIGINAL BOOKING. OF COURSE, THEY MAY EVEN OWN ALL THE HOTELS THEY USE AND SIMPLY USE THE BETTER ONE TO GET HIGHER-PRICED BOOKINGS??

We stayed only 2 nights because they were already booked out for the third night we wanted; being as it was just at beginning of the high season, and they are fairly small. This was the most expensive hotel I have ever stayed at, but we considered it a special splurge, being Venice, etc., etc.

We loved the hotel and other than a slight hint of the often-found attitude in Venice, of looking down on Americans/foreign tourists, we thoroughly enjoyed it. As you can see, our room was plush and good sized; wonderful bed! beautiful bathroom. Our air conditioner worked fine.
I also thought the breakfast was a full selection (contrary to some of the other reviews), which included fresh fruits. I can imagine that certain things in this locale can sometimes be a problem to procure! We got to experience the breakfast on the tiny terrace overlooking the canal on our last day!

We, too, had a little difficulty in finding the hotel, after disembarking the vaporetto, but fortunately, upon asking twice along the way, were given directions. We liked its location, being a little away from the crush, but easy to get to the main areas when desired.
