BEDDING DOWN WITH HISTORY

VIEW FROM OUR BEDROOM AT NIGHT (of the CASTLE)
I SAY 'Bedding Down' BECAUSE WE WERE FORTUNATE TO HAPPEN UPON A VERY SPECIAL B&B TO SPEND OUR COUPLE DAYS HERE. AS YOU CAN SEE, WE HAD A CLOSE VIEW OF THE CASTLE. We arrived at the beginning of the 1st May 3-day weekend without knowing where to stay, and after finding the first six hotels fully booked, luckily followed signs to this lovely place within walking distance to the Castle!

From the brochure: "The mediaeval walled town is unusual for its double ring of walls 3km long, incuding 52 towers. The first, or external wall was built during the reign of Louis IX when the town was part of the royal estates, becoming the seat of the Senelschalsy."

For history buffs, there are many different old places to see dating from the 11th century to the 19th. Our short stay of 2 nights did not allow us time other than spending most of the day walking thru the walled city and enjoying the shops, restaurants, and cathedral.

That castle a stunner! I loved our visit there. Did you know it was used for the filming of "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves", with Kevin Costner? What an amazing find that B&B was!! A friend just stayed in a hotel-£120 a night! Wish I'd seen your tip first.

That B&B sounds like a great place to stay! My own visit to Carcassonne was many years ago and I don't really remember much about it -- nor did I know anything about the history of it back then!
