BASILICA of Ste. MADELEINE

The main street of this little town winds up the hill past artists' studios, galleries and shops before it reaches the BASILICA. It is called one of the all-time glories of Romanesque design, "the marvel of the west", but was completely restored in the 19th century.

Unfortunately, I could not get a lot of photos because there was a small service being conducted when we were there, but I did take a short VIDEO which incudes some beautiful singing!

See the Tip with a few street scenes; it was end of the day and we were there after many of the shops had closed, but I wish we had had a full day to see the Basilica better and enjoy the lovely town.

oh I love France! i could easily endure driving around now instead of here at home (sick with the flu for over a week!mid summer??)..lovely old hotels and architecture, lovely gardens and landscapes...nice little page to stir me up!

Not only Richard the Lionheart was there - me too!! But really, you do not have to mention it in your intro ;-))) You were really lucky with your choice of hotels. And you see: Photos with dramatic clouds are more spectacular than with blue sky. Sissi

A picnic under that lovely tree sounds wonderful. Then hotel was a good choice.
