INTO an EARLY HURRICANE SEASON!

by ViajesdelMundo - last update: Jun 23, 2009

EASTERN PACIFIC HURRICANE 'ANDRES'

FLEURS in LUXEMBOURG GARDENS
It is quite early, about 2 months for us, but already we are preparing for our first named storm to arrive tomorrow (24th) or Thursday, 25th of June. Even if we don't lose our electricity, since our computer is SATELLITE (as we have no phone lines on our dirt road), we will probably lose reception.

Since returning from our trip to Europe, I have loaded some pages and tips on the following pages: BEAUNE, FOS, MEURSAULT, VERSAILLES, VEZELAY w/Video, CARCASSONNE, CAPBRETON, Le PUY en VELAY and BILBAO, BOSSOST, VIELHA,Spain, NEUMAGEN-DHRON, and, TRITTENHEIM, Germany. As well, I added a couple Tips on KANDY, Sri Lanka.

(For anyone interested, have a look at my External Page for albums of photos of our current Europe trip)

WE WENT DOWN THE MOUINTAIN IN SPANISH PYRENEES, TO THE FRENCH BORDER TOWN OF FOS, FOR LUNCH, AND WERE TOASTED (as Americans) AND BOUGHT A DRINK BY SOME FRENCHMEN, IN COMMEMORATION OF THEIR REMEMRANCE TODAY (8TH MAY) OF THE END OF WWII.

DELIGHTFULLY SURPRISED BY THE GREAT WEATHER WE HAD OUR ENTIRE WEEK IN PARIS AND ALL THE BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS!
PERAHERA 'DAY PARADE'

SRI LANKA again, and the DAY PARADE, July-Sep 2008

Finally got out of Colombo for a few days, via train, to KANDY with a couple friends to see the PERAHERA (my second time) and the DAY PARADE; my first time. The weather was good; the security VERY tight and all personnel did a great job!

Stayed at the same place I did in 2005, SPICA HOLIDAY HOME;which has a lovely garden setting, warm, hospitable and good food.
(since I already have an album below, of the former Perahera I attended, I won't load new ones; but check my 'External Site' for albums)

In September I made a 10day side trip to Tamil Nadu, India to visit with a girlfriend there. I enjoyed the time, especially the children that she works with, as well as the few days we spent in the Highands (see my new pages/India, including a new video).

Disappointing that I only met with Colombo VT'er Emile once very briefly just shortly before return home, and another new VT'er who I had given extensive information to about Colombo and general travel tips never made the effort to meet at all............... VERY, VERY HAPPY TO FINALLY BE BACK HOME!!

MAINLAND MEXICO

EARLY MARCH, JUST BACK FROM OUR 2 WEEKS TO OAXACA, PUEBLA and MEXICO CITY AND WE ENJOYED PERFECT WEATHER, HAD LOTS OF GOOD FOODS, TOURED ANCIENT RUINS, MET SOME NICE PEOPLE--BOTH OTHER TRAVELLERS AS WELL AS SOME LOCAL PEOPLE, AND BROWSED LOTS OF MUSEUMS OF COURSE!!

FIRST TRIP OF THE YEAR, NORTH

IN JANUARY WE DROVE UP TO OUR NORTHERN BAJA CASA AND SAN DIEGO AREA FOR 3 WEEKS, WHICH WAS MOSTLY FULL OF ERRANDS AND CAR REPAIR, BUT WE ALSO MANAGED TO VISIT WITH A COUPLE OF OLD FRIENDS.
THE DRIVE UP AND DOWN THE BAJA PENINSULA IS ALWAYS NEW IN MANY WAYS, SUCH AS BEAUTIFUL SPRING FLOWERS, HERDS OF WILD BURROS, BUT ALSO IT IS VERY TIRING. (It is almost 1000 miles between our 2 casas.)
BUT, WE DID FIND A WONDERFUL NEW 'MOTEL' IN GUERRERRO NEGRO, WHICH IS JUST ABOUT HALF WAY. I WROTE A "TIP" ON IT; LOS CARACOLES.

EARLY SPRING FLOWERS IN BAJA DESERT

It was only late January, but there were vast areas of these beautiful blooms in an area that rarely sees rain.

"Portable" Pets

Just a couple years ago, when in HARROD's, LONDON, I "adopted" a stuffed cat and named him QUINTY ALOYSCIOUS. Later in the year, when in New Hope, PA., I bought a small stuffed bear to keep him company; POLLY ANNE.
On MY 2007 trip to Sri Lanka, while visiting a special friend in Anuradhapura, her cousin gave me a gift of a stuffed bear that she had made personally. Seems she makes them all the time; all kinds of animals, large and small and she had quite a collection! You can see a few more on the sofa in the background of the photo.

Then on my trip to Chennai and Ooty, India, Sept. 2008, I added KLUNY COONOOR to my little group, from the markets in COONOOR.

UPDATE: I had asked for help to name my new Bear, and Sissi, in NZ has taken the time and interest to suggest "KANDY"! Which has been accepted, and now my problem is solved; muchas gracias, KaKapo2!

I'll actually be spending my birthday here at home, but thanks for your kind wishes. And I know, the Turner section at the N. Gallery was unreal! Hope you have a good day, I love all your recent stuff.
