Yogyakarta, old culture, young people and noisy

tropical rainfall

all wet
Wanna be child again?
A quite place, in a common neighbourhood...boys enjoying the tropical rain at the end of the afternoon. It can be very refreshing, after a hot sunny day!
But the next days, it rained a little bit all day long. Not pleasant at all, if you want to see the city.

I have not seen foreign tourists (or not recognised) in Yogya. But it was still March, the rainseason was not completely finished.
I think he can sleep in every position

tukang becak

Not only for tourists, locals also use the becak.

And the becakdriver himself? His work is not easy, and he doesn't own much money. A lot of them even struggle every day to pay the rent for the becak.
They are very glad when they have foreign tourists as customer. The only thing is: we are much bigger than a common Indonesian. But they can ask more money...but still not much for a tourist from Europe. And they need it.

So ... why shouldn't we pay a little bit more?
just a street

the bad sides of Yogya

This is also Yogya, but this is still a very quiet street. They like scooters, they like it a lot. Everyone who can afford to have one, buys a scooter. Because of that it is very noisy in the mainstreet. And there is a lot of pollution.

A lot of tourists come to Yogya, to see the old Javanese culture. With a lot of money to spent. The guides likes to earn some money too. And they do everything for that, especially around the palace of the Sultan. Agressive and polite at the same time. I didn't visit the Keraton. I just like to walk around, talking with people.
