"Marxzell in the Alb Valley" Marxzell by Kathrin_E

Marxzell is a village in the Alb valley in the Northern Black Forest, between Ettlingen and Bad Herrenalb. In fact it consists of a handful of villages (Marxzell and Frauenalb down in the valley, Burbach, Pfaffenrot and Spielberg up in the hills). Marxzell is not very big, but apart from forests and hiking trails, the community has two major attractions:

Car museum

1. The car museum. A family of private collectors have started assembling vintage cars and everything around them some decades ago. The collection grew and fills several halls now. This museum is a total mess but a fascinating one, not only for car freaks.

Frauenalb ruin

2. The ruin of Frauenalb convent. Benedictine nuns lived here until the secularization of 1803. Church and convent buildings decayed afterwards. The ruin of the baroque church in the narrow Alb valley is nevertheless impressive. Open air (or better: open roof) concerts take place here in summer.
