"Ahr Valley: Wine and Thermal Springs" Top 5 Page for this destination Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler by Kathrin_E

Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler Travel Guide: 63 reviews and 233 photos

Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler consists of two very different towns: Bad Neuenahr, the posh 19th century spa, and the much older Ahrweiler.

This page also covers some other places in and around the Ahr valley. The title of each tip will indicate in capitals which particular place it is about.

The Ahr is a small river that originates in the Eifel mountains and reaches the Rhine South of Bonn. The steep rocky slopes catch the sun, so the climate is mild and perfect for red wine.

The posh late 19th century spa town of Bad Neuenahr is especially beautiful in spring when the magnolia trees are in bloom and lots of spring flowers are everywhere.

The romantic town centre of Altenahr invites for a stroll along the narrow streets, then a coffee or a glass of Ahr wine in one of the street cafes.

This picture was taken on Easter Sunday, the weather was brillant, and the whole of Bonn and Köln seemed to be on an afternoon trip to the Ahr valley.

Hi Kathrin, an interesting page with wonderful pictures! I have often thought about going to this area for a day as it is so close, and now your page has convinced me :-) It looks absolutely lovely, albeit maybe a bit crowded.
I had not heard about Brohltalbahn before!

Excellent, informative page. I guess the Rotweinwanderweg is not of the Saxon type hiking trails, eh? :-) No, I didn't know about Apollinaris.

'Kurschatten' - haha. I grew up in a spa town and know exactly what you are talking about. Heavily flirting folks at a dancing bar, partying til 10 pm and then rushing back to the clinik before the doors close. After 10 pm the town was almost dead ;o)

Never heard the word "Kurschatten" before :) Would like to ride on the Brohl valley train. In the WineRoll meeting we went to Ahr Valley too!

Ahrweiler looks like a village I would like to visit :-)) Haha, Kur-life and Kurschatten - your descriptions sound funny :-)) And I learn every day, as I didn't know where Apollinaris comes from :-)
