Munich was founded by monks in the 12th century. It was said that when the pope heard how good the beer was he summoned them to Rome.
The old town is very charming and I thoroughly enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere of the marienplatz. They have a great walking tour of the city that meets in the Marienplatz.
I did not go during Oktoberfest but I have made it a must do in the next 5 years.

The architecture in Munich is out of a story book and make sure you take the time and walk around because it is the best way to see Munich because everything is so close and find out the history of the buildings.

If your like me and a history buff then you enjoy all that pre world war 2 Nazi rise to power Munich is a great history class. This building was built by the Nazis and was the Fuhrer building. There is a famous picture of Prime Minister Chamberlain announcing that there will be peace in our time.
