I never really fancied going to Dubai. I thought it was a plastic palm-tree-lined place in the middle of the desert, full of Arabs that think tourists are 'infidels', and footballers' wives planning how to encrust their taps with more diamonds than the nextdoor neighbours.

But after reading the EXCELLENT pages on VT by JessH (thanks Jess !)about the place, and also due to the fact that my wife got us free flights (thanks Virgin !), and because it was sunny and 30+ while UK was rainy and +5, I finally succumbed. Good decision.

Lots of traffic and bad driving.
Construction work, construction work, construction work.
Biggest shopping malls you ever saw, and loads of designer labels.
Huge hotels with multiple restaurants, bars, shops, clubs.
Nice beaches with warm sea.
Excellent service.
A big bill.
