The first time I visited Amsterdam, was in the spring of 1997. I was a college student, there with a friend, indulging in the party aspect. The past two years, I have been visiting here for another reason. I had begun dating a Dutch girl who lived here. Recently I have moved here so I dont consider myself a visitor anymore. The city is fabulous. It is quite a shame if you come here for the party aspect and miss out on all the beautiful things it has to offer. It has a history, the buildings scream of it. The canals are beautiful and its quite a romantic place.
I know most people come here to smoke, because its legal here, when in reality it is not legal. It is just decriminalized. My suggestion is that if you come here to visit, dont be stoned the whole time. Even if that is your purpose for coming, take a day to really see the city for what it is and dont let that be the day that you are completely fried and walking around like a zombie!
