Ballard - In the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley

I will keep this short and sweet, since that is a perfection description of the little town of Ballard which consists of about 100 homes placed neatly on three very short streets: The main drag is Baseline Ave. which ends/starts in Ballard and runs East/West across most of the Santa Ynez Valley. Baseline intersects with the other two main streets, Lewis Street and Cottonwood Street. There is a hotel, The Ballard Inn, which also houses the towns' only restaurant. The only thing to see in town, other than the many friendly inhabitants who often wave to anyone who drives through, is the Little Red Schoolhouse. It was built in 1883 and has been in continuous educational operation since then. It's oozing with memories of the many years it has been teaching the children of the valley. Definitely worth a quick drive by and it's close to just about anywhere else in the valley.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Very Quaint, Very Small, Very Charming
  • Cons:There is only one tourist site in Ballard - The Little Red Schoolhouse
  • In a nutshell:It's a great place to live, and good for a quick drive around if for no other reason than to see the Little Red Schoolhouse
