Midnight flower

In Chinese, these flowers are called 'Keng Fa' and it blooms late in the night. The bud is longish and pink in color and will start to open late in the night. It is in full bloom by 12.30am. It remains in full bloom till early morning i guess. Didn't stay to see when it starts to fade but by sunlight,it is almost fully faded (closed for good).

So you gotta be patient to wait for it to flower from the bud and then cherish its beauty for those few hours by staying awake. lol. There is a chinese grandmother's tale that for people who see it for the first time, they might get lucky with the lottery. I wish! But you can try your luck by looking at this picture lol.

There is a sweetish tinge of scent. With the cool night/early morning air, it is quite refreshing. Ants like it tho, i see some tiny ones hanging a round it, it must be sweet.

I have no idea what is its english or scientific name but would like to know! It has medicinal values as well.

Now i can appreciate why there is a Chinese nursery rhyme/game. It goes something like this (translation into English). "Keng Fa, Keng Fa, when will you be in bloom?". 'Fa' means flower in chinese.

Thank you for your kind words...I catch the ones that would fall through the gaps as they are not pretty,young or intelligent(trained) enough to be re-homed by so called 'normal adopters' ...that makes me an abnormal adopter..wierd!..LOL

Your beautiful Keng Fa is a member of the Epiphyllum family of Cacti or Orchid Cactus. Fragrant and blooms at night for only one night. Enjoy!
