The world of lakes… Burdur is in the district of lakes in the Mediterranean Region. It was called POLYDORION during the Byzantine era. According to one source, the word “Polydorion” was first used as “Polydor” then changed to Burdur.

rst built on the south-facing skirts of Akdag mountain 7km north of the town of Aglasun which is 30km from Burdur. The old road connecting Antalya and Isparta passes through the ancient city. It was the capital of Psidia in the Classical Greek Ages. The ancient city of Cibrya is 108km from Burdur and built upon 3 hills in the forest just of the town of Golhisar. As can be deducted from the variety of marble and stone blocks used for the fortress walls, a city was standing here during the Classical Greek Ages and a Roman city was built upon it. The Insuyu Cave should also be visited. It is situated 12km along the Burdur – Antalya highway and has a depth of 597 metres, literally opening into a dreamworld. Its water is used for treating digestive and diabetic problems.
