The old town is bordered by the mountains Kapuzinerberg, Mönchsberg and Festungsberg. The latter is crowned by the Hohensalzburg fortress, the landmark of Salzburg which was built in 1077. The center of town is formed by the Residenzplatz square with the royal residence and the cathedral which was rebuilt by Santino Solari in 1614. At the foot of Mönchsberg Mountain are the former royal stables where the Salzburg festivals are performed today. The Mozarteum, the museum located in the house where Mozart was born and where he lived, and the Mozartplatz square are reminiscent of the artist. In Mirabell castle huge gardens and parks invite visitors to enjoy and relax. |
| | Salzburg is a fantastic mountain destination on the border between Germany and Austria. Best known as the birthplace of the classical master Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Salzburg offers visitors an abundance of culture. This tiny city is simply bursting with music, from classical music festivals held year-round to touring the sights from The Sound of Music and walking in the footsteps of the von Trapp family. |
