Diksmuide is the largest (surface) city in the province of West-Vlaanderen. The city was completely destroyed during World War I and rebuild in the 1920's.
The statue in front of the picture symbolizes a folkloric character ('t Manneke uit de Mane or the Little Man from the Moon) who criticises the citizens in a popular calender.
