Taguig City is located east of the City of Manila and is part of the National Capital Region, also known as Metro Manila or Metropolitan Manila.

Taguig became a city in December 8, 2004 and is one of the 16 cities and one municipality that make up the National Capital Region.

The city mayor (2007-2010) is Freddie Tinga and George Elias is the vice-mayor. The two districts of Taguig City and Pateros are represented in the House of Representatives by Rep. Lani Cayetano (Taguig-I & Pateros, NPC) and Rep. Jun Dueñas (Taguig-II, Lakas-CMD)

The City of Taguig is made up of 18 barangays (administrative villages): Napindan, Ibayo-Tipas, Ligid-Tipas, Palingon-Tipas, Calzada-Tipas, Ususan, Tuktukan, Sta. Ana, Bambang, Wawa, Hagonoy, Signal Village, Maharlika Village, Lower Bicutan, Upper Bicutan, Western Bicutan, Bagumbayan and Bagong Tanyag. The premier business district of Bonifacio Global City is also a part of Taguig.

Taguig is bounded on the north by Pasig City and Cainta City, on the west by Makati City and the municipality of Pateros, and by Parañaque on the south and southwest. The eastern part of Taguig is part of the Laguna de Bay shoreline.
