The Breweries There are nine breweries in the little town of Bamberg, Germany, making it the most per capita in all the world. They also have a brewery that makes a unique type of beer called smokehouse beer. It tastes like you are drinking ham. It actually isn't too bad, but I would rather have a nice hefeweissen, which tastes more like a loaf of bread than a beer. That kind of beer is popular throughout Germany, however. I still haven't been to all 9 breweries, but I'd like to. |
The Clubs It's a U.S. military town in Europe, and it is also a college town for Germans, so there are many bars and some small clubs. Don't go to the clubs where Americans normally go because there is usually a lot of fights. I witnessed a few myself. It's better to go to the ones the Germans go to, because they don't like to fight at all, and you'll have a better chance of meeting a hot European than at the other places. My favorite club is the Live club where they have live bands plays sometimes. Stay away from the Green Goose at all costs! |
History Bamberg is celebrating their 1000th anniverssary of being Catholic. I am not a Catholic, but it is interesting to see a church sell beer; you'll never see that at a Baptist church in the states! Anyways, there is a lot of great architecture in the old buildings downtown, as the whole city was preserved during WWII. The Americans only tried to bomb them once, and we missed. In the biggest church, there is the only tomb of a Pope north of the Alps. |
