Don't Ride the Ferry

Church in Koln, Germany

The Early Years

Well I was born in New Jersey, and when I was 9 years old, my dad landed a job with the Federal Prison, and in order for him to get promoted we had to move to another state. We turned our moves into vacations, plus we took a vacation at least once a year, most of the time to another state. I was able to see Mt. Rushmore, Disneyland and Disney World, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and Carlsbad Caverns to name a few spots. My favorite was probable Yosemite. I still haven't been to Yellowstone yet, but I definitely want to go there sometime.

The Army Years

I enlisted about five and half years ago, and with the exception of deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, I was touring Europe as much as possible; I've now hit 18 countries on the continent, wanting to hit more. I'm stationed in Bamberg, Germany, which is the beer capital of the world. The eastern Europe countries are usually better for partying, but western Europe is certainly better for culture and stuff like that. Wroclaw, Poland is the city I've been to the most outside of where I lived.

Future Trips

When I get back to Germany from the beautiful country of Afghanistan, my friends and I are planning another Eurotrip filled with drunken debauchery, but maybe with an African Safari thrown in the middle, but we'll probably end up drunk there as well, knowing us. Anyways, we're also planning a final trip to the Netherlands before going back to the states. The first trip, my friends and I went to Czech Republic, Poland, Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. It was freezing cold when we landed in Latvia; it took six seconds for our spit to freeze.

Don't Ride the Ferry

Well I guess I have to put this story on here to explain the evils of this world. On one of my many visits to the shady city of Amsterdam, I ate too many mushrooms of the magical variety, and it was too much for my system to take, and my friends and I were about to board a ferry to get to the other side of the city, but for some reason I was afraid of it, but I got on it anyways cause we had to get across. Well anyways, I saw a green light and passed out; I got up, and I went right back down. This was all in a span of about two minutes. The good side of this is that this probably saved our group from getting mugged, and I ended up swearing them (shrooms) off, but of course I can't do them while in the Army anyways. Although that wasn't my last time doing them. I was pretty stupid back then.

Deployments

I was deployed twice to Iraq for a total of 24 months, and now I'm currently in Afghanistan for probably 10 months. These countries suck, but we get to go 2 weeks leave and/or a 4 day pass to Qatar. Qatar is actually a decent place to go, but not during Ramadan because all the bars are closed. Ramadan lasts for a month, and it takes place during the end of September through the middle of October; it depends on the full moon or something like that. Anyway, I ended up going on a trip to a private beach in the middle of October, and the water was really warm, and it felt great. Afghanistan really is a beautiful country, it just sucks that there has to be so much fighting going on. Here is a picture of what we're really fighting for. Afghanistan might not have much oil, but it certainly has its cash crops.
