Hua Hin | View of town from Khao Takiab |
What's remarkable about Hua Hin is that it is spared the gaudy neon-lit gogo bars that's been plaguing the likes of seaside resorts like Pattaya and Patong. It is very likely the result of town planning for the King of Thailand, who spends alot of time here at the Klai Kangworn (Far from Worries) Palace near the centre of town. It's grown into a high-end seaside resort that attracts a different clientele (Middle class family trips, local Thais) unlike the "Pattaya-set", with lots of 5-star resort hotels and spas to match eg. Chiva-Som and the colonial looking Sofitel. Hence, coming to Hua Hin during the Northern Winter can be an expensive pursuit, with room rates easily double that of Pattaya in a comparable hotel.
There are many things in Hua Hin to keep you busy, from the surrounding sights to shopping with the peacefulness of the surrounding areas (see my Pran Buri page) and without the gogo-bars - if you're not into these sort of things. It's a good place to bring families and kids to, with excellent beaches - it's a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. |
