Barri Gotic: Wander through the crooked streets
  • Tip Rating:
  • The best part of the Barri Gotic is getting lost in the twists and turns, and then stumbling upon a square or a church that takes your breath away. The little (really little!) bars and cafes tucked into the old buildings make you feel like you've stepped back in time. Of course you're brought back to present day when a scooter comes racing by!

    Museums: Museu de Carrosses Funebres
  • Tip Rating:
  • Yes, this is a hearse museum! It might sound odd or creepy but this is one of the most intriguing collections I've ever seen. It occupies the basement of a nondescript office building next door to the city's funerary services. You ask at reception to view the collection, wait to be escorted to a tiny elevator, then look in amazement as the door opens onto a well-designed display. There are carriages dating back to the 18th century, complete with horses and footmen, decked out in period costume, as well as photographs from the mid 19th century of the actual carriages in procession.

Don't be timid, it is truly worth it!

Parks / Plazas: Arc del Triomf
  • Tip Rating:
  • This triumphal arch marks the entrance to the city from the Parc de la Ciutadella and was built for the 1888 Universal Exhibition. Created in the Mudejar style, the red brick glows in the sunlight, showcasing the allegorical sculptures on the frieze. It certainly makes a pleasant gateway to home with your weekend shopping!
