It seems SA is getting more popular these days....especially Brazil. Don't forsake Colombia...The 'three fingers of the Andes' end in Western Colombia...coffee country. Stay in Manazales or even Chinchina. Medellin was a very social and lively place. I was there in 2006,2004.
Brazil 2002/2003.

Loved Zeeland....SW portion of the country...must go at Maastricht...Loved that town/city. It is East along the Meuse river between Belgium and Germany.

First cruise...good for a long weekend.

Finally went on a cruise, though I cannot say it has been close to the top of my list. went w/another couple who was celebrating a special event. Four nights was adequate. thank God for the good weather. Without being able to go topside and enjoy the water and sun and moon, it would have been much less enjoyable. The Mayan ruins in Tulum were the highlight. large area and very much intatct.

Iquaszu Falls, Buenos Aires, Salta, Tilcara

Tough to comment on all four SA destinations, but we did them on one trip usingBA as our base, which is a very Euro type city with much to offer. Flights to Salta and Iquaszu were not cheap..about US$500 per person, but well worth it. The Falls were amazing. Stayed three nights in Iquaszu.
Back to BA then up to Salta(NWest AR). Rented a car and two two hours further Nwest to Tlcara and stayed for four nighta absolutly amazing. I have the lodge info if needed. Up in the hills overlooking the valley. Owned/Operated by a retired oil guy from France who worked in BAA for many years. I have to mention the salt flats (Salinas Grandes). Awesome and well worth the hour or so drive from Tilcara.

Mexico City

Just returned last week from 6 nights in Mex City...Stayed in the Zocolo which is great for a first timer...Daily flag raising by the army in the square complete with the band playing the Mex national anthem...Teotihaucan for a day, Diego Rivera art at the Ministry of Education building(walking distance from Zocolo), fine dining at Pujol and Mercederes...street food on occasion, Chapultepec Park on Sunday, National Anthropological museum, Casa Azul(Diego and Frida home in Coyacan, Leon Trotsky in Coyacan...All made for an interesting trip...Public trans (subway) is the way to go...Use 'city sense' which was fine for us since we live downtown Chicago...
