Romantic Weekend Getaway | Jarrah forest near Margaret River |
In April my boyfriend and I set off for a few days in Margaret River. So much wine to taste, so little time! There's so much to do in Margaret River, it's a favourite long weekend destination for many Perth-ites.
Despite its sophistication, Margaret River is still a country town, and red-neck attitudes are still to be found. But in general, the locals are accepting of tourists, seeing as that's how most of them make their living.
The main attraction of the region, for many, is the abundant wineries. To accompany the wineries, a gourmet produce industry has also developed, so you'll find many yummy conserves, olive oils, cheeses, and various other produce.
Although the main town is a little inland, Margaret River is also famous for its excellent surf beaches. And it's close to many lovely national parks. So you'll find an eclectic mix of young scruffy types and more "sophisticated" city folk. With its increase in popularity, real estate prices in the region have sky-rocketed, so much of the housing is now out of reach of many but the wealthy.
But Margaret River is a destination with so much to offer, and it's there to be thoroughly enjoyed. We sure did! |
