Rabat Travel Guide: 116 reviews and 412 photos

Rabat is a town situated right next to 'Mdina' in the south-western part of Malta. The of the town is derived from the Arabic word for suburb as it was a suburb of the old capital Mdina.
Rabat is home to the famous catacombs of 'St.Paul' and 'St.Agatha',these were used in Roman times to bury the dead,as according to Roman culture it was unclean to bury the dead in the city. The catacombs are now looked after by the Heritage of Malta. The area near Mdina is very pretty with lots of open space used for parkland and some lovely restaurants with great views of the local countryside as the town is quite elevated.

Rabat has a population of over 7000 and shares its name with the capital city of Morocco.Parts of the films 'Munich' and 'Black Eagle' were filmed in Rabat.
