Depends on where you go in AZ, there will be a large difference in temperature and landscape. For example, Phoenix and Flagstaff are very different in elevation. Phoenix is more desert with lots of cacti. And Flagstaff is more similar to Taiga with lots of evergreens. The drive from Flagstaff to Grand Canyon was certainly interesting. You get to see large evergreens lining up steep and twisty two lane roads. And suddenly the landscape changes to Savannah, where you see some grasslands and isolated trees, then you see desert right before you see the big chasm. I really enjoyed the diversity of biomes available in AZ. |
| View of Grand Canyon from Hopee Point |
| | Grand Canyon One of the Seven wonders of the world. We were there in the beginning of summer, so it is super hot already. I recommend having a camelback with you, so that you have water readily available. Sunscreen and hats are a must. I wore loose long sleeve shirts and linen pants that has some SPF protection. The air is so dry, sometimes you get nosebleeds, just use a saline solution whenever you remember. Between the North rim and South rim, is a 4 hrs drive. Most people visit the South rim, especially Hopee (spelling?) point. If you have money, go on the helicopter tour. If not, just go see the Imax on the Grand Canyon, most is shot from a helicopter. Oh. Try to make the lecture about CA condors, they're really cool. |
| My friends and I at Sedona |
| | Sedona If you don't get to see the painted desert, this is the next best thing. Since I didn't get to see the painted desert, I'm glad I didn't miss Sedona. I didn't get pictures at sunset cause my battery died-I know I was cheated! But you can still appreciate the beauty that is Sedona. If you have time and money, stay at the resorts there. And you can check out the rolling rocks with cool water slides. Silver and Turquoise shopping if you are into it. |
