Barcelona (The Old Mixed With the New)

Barcelona (View from Cable Car)
Just returned from Barcelona after a trip with my girlfriend and we both had a really enjoyable time. Barcelona is such a vibrant city that seems to have such a great desire to keep growing and developing without losing touch with tradition and history.
Along with all the fantastic historical buildings and areas such as the Barri Gothic you have wonderful newly developed areas such as the Olympic Port and Barceloneta which don't detract from or impose themselves upon the older areas of the city.
Just look at Sagrada Familia for evidence of the cities desire for growth and unique development. With construction continuing for over 100 years Sagrada Familia seems to me to some up Barcelona's unique way of connecting the old and the new without impacting on the city.
Barcelona is a city which isn't afraid to develop new modern areas and buildings while still respecting and conserving the city's historical past.

Barcelona Architecture and Gaudi

Barcelona's arcgitecture is amazing. Barcelona is perhaps best known for it's modernist architecture dating from the late 19th century. Among it's great modernist architects, Antoni Gaudi is without doubt the most well known. His impressive architecture from early works such as Casa Vicens through to his famous Casa Mila and Park Guell can all be witnessed in Barcelona City. However the unfinished temple of Sagrada Familia is rightly noted as his masterpiece, which he dedicated himself to entirely for the latter part of his life, right up to his death in 1926.
The fact that there has been such support towards the completion of Sagrada Familia is testament to the genius of Gaudi and the awe and wonder which his work invigorates in any person who witnesses his architecture. To see the finished temple is something I hope I live long enough to see for myself.

Barcelona Sights

Barcelona will keep every visitor busy for days. The city is bustling night and day and everyone will find something to suit their taste whether your interests are in museums, architecture, art, history, sport or socialisng. The highlights of my visit to Barcelona were Sagrada Familia (of course), Park Guell, Casa Mila, Montjuic Castle, Placa Espanyol, Placa Catalunya, Barri Gothic, Camp Nou, La Rambla, The Olympic Stadium and surrounding area and Montuic Hill itself, Port Vell and Barceloneta and Port Olympic. I also visited Girona and Montserrat which were excellent day trips from Barcelona and well worth the trip especially Monserrat which was amazing.
