A great picnicking spot can be found at Black Rock Canyon Recreation Area, just inside the same-named entrance on Joshua Lane, which is clearly marked from the highway.
The dramtic boc canyon lined with junipers, cholla cacti and desert shrubs affords spectacular vistas of the Morongo Valley and
San Bernandino Mountains, all best seen from the I.3-mile High View Trail Loop. If you are lucky, you might also spot one of the park's elusive bighorn sheep foraging along a hilltop at dusk. Once the sun settles over the mountains, lower the car windows and listen for the singing of the coyotes that prevail in this corner of the park.
