Hungarians aren't that bothered as long as they've got a drink in front of them. Standing at counters is rare, but table service, though the norm, varies from slow to practically stationary. Bar snacks are starchy and simple, the pogacsa, a sailty scone, the meleg szendvics, a grilled slice of bread topped with cheese and either mushrooms or a mystery meat, or zsiros kenyer, bread and dripping with raw onions. There are three traditional mainstays, the borozo, a cheap and unpretentious wine cellar, the sorozo, a bear bar inferior those of Germany or Czech Republic, and the presso, a sort of caffe bar.Hungarian beer is acceptable if it's cold.
Favorite Dish: The area around the south end of Vaci utca is decent for pub crawling, with an assortment of bars in its waterfront backstreets. Most borozos and many presszos close at around 8 pm. Most pubs and bars open until midnight to 2 am.

littlesam1 Thu Mar 2, 2006 16:37 UTC I am going to Budapest in April. Your pages are a great help. | tak_pap Fri Feb 24, 2006 16:33 UTC fantastic page ! a truly guide ! I'll use it, next week, when I'll be in Budapest | oradea_dream Sun Feb 12, 2006 16:55 UTC Hi. Those "tribal chiefs" all happen to be famous Hungarian KINGS. As a matter of fact, what was your point in labeling them that way? From a rhetorical point of view, being condescending makes a poor speech artifice. | trek06 Thu Dec 1, 2005 03:31 UTC Amazing pics of Budapest! |
