When visiting San Diego there are tons of bars and clubs to enjoy. There are four main areas to go when in the 'San Diego' area....the college area, Down Town, Old Town, and all the beach areas like Ocean, Mission, and Pacific Beach. I'm going to tell you all about the nightlife Down Town, but to find places in Old Town look under restaurants. To find places in the beach area look on my Pacific Beach page. What a beautiful skyline...

When visiting San Diego you have to decide what type of nightlife you are looking for. If you want more of a casual, laid back environment to party then head to the beach. But if you are looking for something a little more upscale then you should head Down Town, otherwise known as the Gaslamp District. Here are my suggestions for nightlife Down Town.

My all time favorite is Dick's Last Resort. Dick's is a great place to start the evening. They serve lunch and dinner food with a crazy menu, but are famous for their buckets of fries or chicken legs. There is patio seating as well as a great bar inside that live bands play at. But before going to Dick's you have to be warned of the service....hence the name. The waiters will slam your food and drinks on the tables, yell at everyone and be somewhat rude, but its all part of the environment so don't take it personally. Dick's serves big beers with souvenir glasses, great cocktails, there is lots of noise, big screen TVs, and big picnic tables. Watch out for flying napkins. Everyone throws rolled up napkins at each other. It sounds odd, but it is super fun. I love this place.

Dress Code: Dick's is more casual than most places Down Town, but like I said this is a great starting point so dress for later.

My second Favorite place Down Town is Buffalo Joe's. I love it!!! Buffalo Joe's is located on a corner and has windows all the way around so you can watch the action from the street (while you wait in line). A mix of bands plays to whatever's the trend of the moment. They have had swing dancing, retro '80s, but my personal favorite is Saturday night....'70s night...featuring the DISCO PIMPS. They rock. You will have the time of your life. Be prepred this place gets crowded.
