Road Trip In 1989, my aunt and her church's singles group from Houston chartered a bus to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. This was nothing new for them as it was an annual trip, but for me, a fairly untraveled freshman in college, it was a great adventure!
I spent 2 1/2 days in New Orleans and had a fantastic time although I'm sorry to say that that's my only experience in Louisiana. I'm sure many Cajuns get tired of hearing that.
Anyway, we really enjoyed all of the parades, people, music, masks, krewes, and I would say food, but my aunt is not adventurous, so I didn't get to try NEARLY as much Cajun and new foods as I would've liked. However, she did take me to Cafe Du Monde, and I got to try beignets and chickory coffee. I know, I know, more touristy stuff, right? But it was fun, and I'd love to go back and appreciate more of the culture, history, and food than I did back then.
Not that it matters, but I did get panties and pearls from some of the krewes. :) |
