Getting TO/AROUND: The first funicular opened in 1862 and linked Rue Terme and Boulevard de la Croix Rousse in Lyon. It was closed and converted to a road tunnel in 1968.
The construction works of the world's second one were started in July 1868 in Buda by favour of Count Ödön Széchényi. The built-up construction did the 95 m distance on a slope of 30° linked the Adam Clark Square at river level to Buda Castle above. - roughly likewise, than today.
The line was opened on March 2, 1870. At the very first time the vehicle covered three metres per second, but this proved to be fast; from this reason to request of the clients the speed was reduced to its half.
Today already only the tourists make use of the funicular exclusively. Annually more than one million passengers use it in order to visit the castle.

    Category: Airplane
Getting TO/AROUND: The airport is located 16km (10 miles) southeast of Budapest on route E60 and is clearly signposted from Budapest. From the city centre, the dedicated Ferihegy High Speed Road facilitates access within 20 minutes.
There is a covered walkway between terminals 2A and 2B, and a bus link between terminals 1 and 2.
Discount airlines use Terminal 1, including carriers such as Wizz Air, easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2.com.
All full-service flights departing to destinations within the Schengen Zone use Terminal 2A, while other international flights–including those to the United Kingdom–depart from Terminal 2B.

There are short-term car parks situated at both terminals and also a long-term car park with security surveillance.

Regular trains, operated by Hungarian State Railways (http://www.mav.hu, Hungarian only) run between Terminal 1 and Budapest's western railway station (journey time - under 30 minutes). There is a bus link between the station and Terminal 2.

Visit to the Airport on weekdays only.
During the visit taken by bus in an hour you may visit all significant territories of the Airport: hangars, runways, terminal buildings etc. The program starts from the Open Air Aircraft Museum and ends by seeing its exhibition.

Getting TO/AROUND: Taking a boat from Vienna to Budapest is by far and away the best way of making the trip. The hydrofoil is quiet, smooth, uncrowded and has a top speed of 100 km/h.
The route on Danube offers you to see scenic cities, villages, old castles, and beautiful countryside from your seat.
You leave Vienna from the terminal DDSG Boat Pier, Handelskai 265. at the Mexican Platz, opposite the UNO-City. Latest check-in 15 minutes before departure. No seat reservations are available, passengers will take seats as boarding.
Almost as soon as the boat is underway, á la carte buffet and tax free shop open up.

On arrival in Budapest, you get off at the terminal International Boat Pier Belgrad rakpart at the Admiral Restaurant. Once past customs, there is a bank in the terminal, where you can change money as well. There is a tourist office desk and a taxi stand right outside the terminal too.

Update for 2009: Season from 1st May to 27th September daily dep. 9am (282 km, 5 and 1/2 hours).
    Tickets one-way: Adults € 89.00, Students € 79.00, Children (2-14 years old) € 44.50,

This is an excellent and informative page about a place I will have to visit one day, Lazslo! I would walk in the streets of your beautiful city and go to all these museums. Travelling by hydrofoil seems a good idea.
