All these will I give you, if falling down you will adore me..... (Gospel of Matthew 4:9)
Barcelona is well-known all over the world for its surreal designs by Gaudí and Miró but now has another avant-garde masterpiece - the unmissable sail-shaped W hotel building which is an eyecatching 26-storey skyscraper on the Barcelona coastline.
The creator of this vast vision of shimmering glass is the Barcelona-born post-modern architect Ricardo Bofill, who also has designed Barcelona’s new airport terminal recently.
The commonly known “Hotel La Vela” for its distinctive shape has a perfect location in Bocana Nova at the southern tip of the La Barceloneta beach, where Gaudi's city meets the Mediterranean Sea.
Barcelona W has a direct beach access, to promenade of La Barceloneta, within walking distance of the beaches pristine and the world famous La Rambla promenade. A fine selection of bars and first class restaurants in Port Vell are only a stone's throw away.

In 1900 Count Eusebi de Güell y Bacigalupi, a Catalan count bought a small rocky hillside property on El Carmel with little vegetation but with beautiful views of the harbor and asked Gaudi to create a miniature garden city.
Gaudi had created roads and walkways, steps and plazas with tiled benches curving around them, fascinating buildings, colonnades, viaducts, grottoes, etc. and two gatehouses, which are guarded by the best known symbol of the park, a dragon-like mosaic lizard.
You meet with it in various forms - refrigerator magnets, pot holders, coasters, post cards - in every Barcelona souvenir shop.
You can enter the park by the other entrance, which had a series of escalators to bring you to the top of the hill.
At the high vantage points of the Park you have one of the best views of Barcelona. more

I loved your detail re the architecture I am visiting Barcelona this weekend for the first time
Hello, Laszlo ! Barselona looks great and is a very attractive destination I think..... Thanks for your page!....
Laszlo, fabulous new page with brilliant photos of Barcelona. Your page brings back memories of my time in the city back in 2003, although the impressive W hotel building probably did not exist at that time.
great city, I always return for the food, music, architecture, people, football etc
Wow, such lovely photographs of Barcelona! You've brought into my livingroom and enjoyed your adventure here. Lovely page!
A fine new page about Barcelona from your 2005 visit! I spent some time in Barcelona when I was younger and really liked it, also took the family there once in the 1970s but haven't been back since. Must go again one of these years!
I can't believe a really smart move. An escalator to the park instead of those hills. I wish they were there when I visited.
