The Öresundsbron, the world's longest, alone standing, cable-supported bridge between Copenhagen and Malmo, is not only for cars, but for railroad traffic as well. The full length of the bridge is 7845 metres and was opened by Queen Margrethe of Denmark and King Carl Gustaf of Sweden in 2000.

| The Turning-Torso in the background |
| | The tallest skyscraper in Sweden The new landmark of Malmo, the Turning Torso with its 190.4 meters is the tallest skyscraper in Sweden. This is really an interesting building to see, the concrete and steel tower consisting of nine cubes on top of each other is torqued, or twisted, through 90 degrees from top to bottom. The skyscraper is symbolizing a man twisting his torso to behold the world. It lies quite far from the downtown, in an industrial area that is under redevelopment - hence the high profile building.

| | Nils Holgersson and the giant goose On the rear of the 20 SEK is an illustration of the Nobel Prize-winning Swedish author, Selma Lagerlöf's famous story of Nils Holgersson, who astride on the giant goose tours around his homeland. This tale was Lagerlöf's fulfillment of a commission from the Swedish government for a story to introduce the geography and culture of the country to children. The story was a standard part of the curriculum of the Swedish public schools for many years. While this is no longer the case, it remains one of the best-known and loved works of Swedish literature.

Zvrlj Thu Jun 25, 2009 08:01 UTC Torso is marvelous achievement and the castle seems like a place we could spend a whole day (or several days) in. Thanks for the great info. | lynnehamman Wed Jun 24, 2009 09:36 UTC Interesting architecture in Malmo. Very distinctive. Good overview. The Gardens of Rhododendrons & Sofiero Castle would keep me happy for hours- I adore Rhododendrons. Great photos, Lazlo | Nemorino Sat Jun 20, 2009 22:30 UTC I didn't go to Malmö this time, because I was too busy in Copenhagen. But maybe next time, since it's just a short train ride across the bridge. |
