Columbus' house
The home of Christopher Columbus, where the great navigator was supposedly born and raised. The original house was destroyed in 1684 by French bombardments, later rebuilt, and has recently undergone extensive archeological exploration.

The important maritime center

With its strategic position at the foot of mountains in the Gulf of Genoa at the most northerly end of the Tyrrhenian Sea, where at one time it ruled the maritime world, it is no surprise that Genoa has been inhabited since forever.
It is an interesting thing, the English word "blue jeans" has an origin from the French word "Bleu de Gênes", meaning "blue material from Genoa". In times past, the very strong denim cloth was used to make the trousers worn by the port workers over 500 years ago. France also has played a role in the history of jeans, as the material was originally known as cloth ''de Nimes'', or denim.
Galleria Giuseppe Mazzini

La Galleria Giuseppe Mazzini

Since the cruising has become popular in the Mediterranean, a growing number of travelers are breezing in to see the important maritime center, named after the mythical two-headed God, Janus, protector of ships.
La Galleria Giuseppe Mazzini, Genoa’s elegant 19th Century architectural gem, an imitation of the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery in Milan, was built in the second half of the nineteenth century. It connects Piazza Corvetto and Piazza De Ferrari with an opera theatre.
Beautiful shops are inside the Gallery covered by a glazed roof in a metal framework. During Christmas time the popular book and antique fair held here.
