Baan Hin Sai: Samui - Stunning beach views and a great Spa

A few years ago I stayed at Baan Hin Sai and had a sea view room that was pretty amazing. My buddy and our companions had a great time hanging out in one of the 3 pools that overlook the sea and the spa was really special. At that time, it was new, so we got away with about 1200 baht, its up around 2000 now, but still not too bad.
Unique Qualities: The only complaints I have are that it is a very steep down from the road to the rooms, although they have a little cart that will pick you up and drop you off in no time. Also, it's right on the busy part of the road between Chaweng and Lamai, so a bit tough to pick up a ride. I just rented a moped which worked, except that they really grind up that hill...

Lai Thai guesthouse: Chiang Mai - Easy, full service accoms

Lai Thai is nothing fancy, but it does have decent rooms, a decent restaurant and a decent pool and decent travel agency services for tours and the like. Friendly, helpful staff. It seems to be popular with Europeans and there's a variety of rooms that have private or shared bathrooms.
Unique Qualities: BEST foot massages in Thailand. I don't know the lady's name, but there's a tall thai woman who has really strong hands and a great touch - if you like it kangleng (strong/deep), like me. Otherwise it will mess you up!

Baan Tawan: Pai's riverside beauty spot

Pai is a quiet town, and we had a cottage right along the river where it was easy to spend lots of time on the private balcony, just soaking up the beauty of the river. The room itself was all hardwoods and bamboo with a large mosquito net (much needed!) as a canopy. There was always a flower and the stone-lined shower had home made soaps. Friendly, helpful staff. Lovely experience.
Unique Qualities: Riverside. Easy walk to town.
