Nightlife Spot: Q Bar

This place was started by a couple of Australians without much of a budget. The result was one of the hottest and most popular night spots in Bangkok. Well-off elite Thais and hipster internationalistas rub shoulders (and more) as they grind the night away to a techno beat.

Often copied, but never duplicated, Q still reigns as the supreme night spot. One caveat: prices in this place are similar to what you’ll find in US places (200-300 baht/ drink)

Nightlife Spot: Bed Supperclub

Bed joins Q Bar and Novotel’s CM2 as the upscale contribution to Bangkok’s nightlife.

Their unique contribution is a nice dinner served up on the eponymous bed-type lounging seats. The restaurant is a nice experience, good food and the nightclub dance spot is very popular with well-to-do Thais and some foreigners. There’s a LGBT night for those so inclined.

Only not so great feature is getting a cab at the 2am closing time.

Nightlife Spot: Absolute pub

Absolute bar has live music and a very nice energy. There’s a lot of locals and foreigners mixing it up from happy hour time to closing time at 2. Fun spot and a lot more down to earth than Q or Bed.
The Thai cover band’s English is sometimes more creative than accurate, but they sound pretty good

Nightlife Spot: Twisted

Twisted has obviously spent a lot of money trying to get their club up to speed. The freezer room where you can quaff frozen vodka shots is interesting and at their grand re-launch, celebrities posed in front of the ice sculpture in the main ‘chill’ area.

But as I passed the place on my way to my hotel, I noticed there was never a night, including the weekend, where they generated a decent sized crowd. Could be because the place is so poorly run. The bartenders are incredibly slow and they don’t understand their own chit system. Broken bottles on the floor go unattended for a long time, security is gruff and repelling rather than polite and security-invoking.
