Botswana: a southern African gem

Village Life in Botswana

Moshupa a fairly typical Botswana village
Between 1983 and 1989 I lived and worked in Botswana firstly as a Secondary School science teacher and then as a roving school science advisor. I lived in three different locations: Moshupa, about 40 miles south west of Gaborone, Ootse, south of Gaborone and Tonota about 15miles south of Francistown.

I thoroughly enjoyed my life out there, finding my work hugely satisfying. The travelogue below gives you more details of my experience in Moshupa in the mid 80s. I often think how much it will have changed as I have never been back to Botswana although I hope to make the return sometime soon.
Mekoros in the Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta

I consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit the delta in August. I think the tourist industry there has gone upmarket but with low volume of visitors so the impact upon the environment has been minimised with maximum return to the local communities.

If you get the chance this is one place you should aim to visit in Botswana. It is just magical.

Great information on Botswana and some of its attractions! My wife and I are really anxious to visit there and have the Okavango Delta and Chobe in our sights!
