Great for a weekend break | The Meuse river bisects the town |
I was only here for a couple of nights to attend a conference at the huge MECC Conference Centre, a short distance out of town. Luckily I managed to escape to wander round the town in the early evening in June. It had been raining but luckily the sun shone at the right time and I enjoyed my stroll around the cobbled streets even though most places, except the bars and restaurants, were shut. I understand there is a Natural History Museum, a Ceramics Centre and numerous old churches to explore. For me I was quite happy taking in the quiet atmosphere of the old town. It's a University town but perhaps the students were studying for their exams because they weren't very much in evidence. It all seemed rather genteel. Have a look at my photos to gain an impression of the town. You'll have to read other VT tips to find out about the places to visit. |
