"Lasithi - the eastern end of Crete" Prefecture of Lasithi by MikeBird

Our first week based in Piskachefalo near to Siteia helped us wind down and get into the Greek way of life. Our routine was to sleep during the heat of midday and stay up late in the warm balmy evenings.
Siteia, is Crete's 5th largest town but unlike the other places it still has a relaxed pace of life with the waterfront on the harbour being the centre of attraction in the evening. Our two teenagers enjoyed the bars and restaurants here but if they had hoped for night clubs they were out of luck as we didn't find them.
By our second week, in the tiny Lasithi village of Monastiraki, north of Ierapetra, we had slowed down even more and the use of the pool in the rented villa enabled my son and daughter to declare they were happy to chill out rather than explore places with Mum and Dad during the cooler parts of the day.
- Pros:In places it's paradise
- Cons:Beware - intensive farming under plastic
- In a nutshell:Very much Crete for the Cretans

I may not get to this area in lifetime, so thanks for the tour. YOur pictures and comments were great.
Well written tips about your visit to Lasithi. Great restaurant information and enjoyed reading about the "fish tanks" - how clever.
Yep, I definitely want to visit!!! especially Kato Zakros. The restaurants sound superb. Excellent off the beaten track tips.
