Brisbane - the capital city of the Sunshine State!

Brisbane - my home town! [for now ;)]

The river and the city
Brisbane is a city with a lot to do.. but only if you know where to look. There is things for the young and old, and I will detail all of these further on my page. This city has a good lifestyle for its citizens, and a good transport system with buses and trains running frequently, so you can really see the whole city.

What's it like to live in Brisbane??

Living in Brisbane, sometimes I think that it's boring and there's nothing to do. But compared to a lot of places, there is. It is a nice place, ie. there isn't much crime that you see, or ruined buildings and the like. There are a lot of parks to go to if you like taking walks, or picnicking etc. Most suburbs have at least 1 big park, for example Minnippee Parklands is a good visit, or Wynnum and Manly are nice oldish suburbs with a good playground and beach and swimming pool.

Brisbane has lots of shopping malls, and the city itself has Queen st mall and many adjacent shops. The more you explore the city, the more random seemingly hidden shops you find. I've been here 6 years and I haven't found them all yet. That's good fun.

Although it is away from the famous Gold and sunshine coast beaches, there are a few beaches around, although some are beside rivers and lakes as opposed to oceans.

There are many many cinemas, (more than is on the entire island of Malta!), along with 2 ice skating rinks, several bowling alleys, arcades and that sort of thing.

For the culture-liking people, there is the art gallery that is enjoyed by people of all ages, a cool Japanese garden and buildings at Southbank, and many more museums. There are A LOT of museums and nature walks, if you look for them. Ourbrisbane.com helps, but often the locals know of better things to do. For example, it will tell you of Roma st parkland's market, but it will not tell you that it has the best kids playground around, and of the trees that people can climb everywhere in, and are worth a try for anyone, not just kids. It won't tell you of the laughing yoga that always seems to be happening down by the river there, or that there is a free tennis court to use. It will tell you to pay southbank a visit, but won't mention how the lolly shop on the main st is definitely worth a look. On the radio the other day, it said there were 4 steam trains running today. I never knew we had steam trains. So you really need to explore and get to know the city.

All in all though, Brisbane gives people a good life, or a good holiday.

anyway..

Look through my pages for stuff to do, more tips etc. :) Have fun!
