Azerbaijan is one of the new CIS republics. As all others are, this country is in transition period in all senses. Unlike other two I have been to ( Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan), Azerbaijan uses their own language (Azeri Turkish) as private and official language. This is one of the most important part of the transition period which has been achieved successfully in short period of time. Baku, capital of Azerbaijan, is a driving force for whole country.

Azerbiajan is oil rich country and Baku has big importance in this region. During Russian times the city was known as one of the biggest oil sources in Asia. However, all activities were carried onshore as offshore oil technology was absent. Now, Baku is surround by offshore and onshore oilrigs. Azerbaijan is world's 24th largest oil producer. After the independence, wealth started to spread among public.

Baku (or Baki) in local language called "Wind". It is really a windy city and deserve its name.
