"Gentse Feesten rule" basvanderveen's Profile

Since March 2009 I am living in Ghent, Belgium. From 17-27th of July 2009 the whole town is boiling over with live music, dancing and drinking. I am volunteering on the Pole Pole Festival where World Music is played from 17 until 3h at night.

I have been living in Tbilisi, Georgia, the country in the Caucasus with excellent mountain resorts, climbing tracks, mountainbike trails and beautiful scenery combined with a hospitable culture.

When you plan to visit Georgia (or any country in this region), try to meet and communicate with the local people. This will give you an unique insight in the Georgian culture, because Georgians are famous hosts, who will go out of their way to please their guests and prepare them a supra (festive meal). A guest is a gift from God so the Georgians say.

I don't know where to begin in my praise of this town, its people are from everywhere on the globe and open-minded, the medieval city centre is both authentic and pitoresque and everywhere you can find place to sit down, look around and eat and drink. CafePan has a list of over 300 bars in Ghent, many are one of a kind.

In the centre of town as well as just outside there are many green spots to go for a stroll, have a barbeque or just look at the many people enjoying themselves in the summertime.

The surrounding countryside it excellent terrain for cyclists. The tourism bureau (www.tov.be) has a great catalogue of trips, also in the city centre itself. Bikes can be rented at a couple of places in town
