"The mother of the world" Arabian Nights

Cairo men
Downtown Cairo's European style masks the true history of what is one of the great Arab cities. The ancient Egyptians had their capitals to the south of the present-day Cairo at Memphis, Abydos and Luxor.

The Romans built a fortress several miles south of Tahrir Square at what is now known Old Cairo.

The Fatimid Islamic dynasty conquered the Levant and established Al-Qahira, " the Victorious" as their capital from the 10th century.
