Cheese Factory

If you want to buy some fresh cheese you should visit the little cheese factory in the Engelberg Monastery.
Since the 17th century the most important income for the monastery of the valley was cheese trade. Today the Monastery demonstrates to visitors the art of cheese making that is the soft cheese called Brie. They have a little show room where you can watch a person working (40 minutes intervals for the different steps). They have a little restaurant and a shop with a good selection of cheese and yogurts. The restaurant offers of course cheese dishes like Fondue, Raclette and quiches.
My favourite cheeses: Engelberger Klosterglocke and Chilino (Brie with Chilies)

Directions: Located about 10 minutes walk from the train station through the center of town. Or there is a Parking area right next to the monastery (free for up to 1,5 hours).

Bike up to Trübsee

Engelberg has a some mountain bike trails a short one is from the village to the Trübsee. It is 13km long and goes up for 830m. The first bit is the steepest through the shady forest on a paved road (not too much traffic) Then from the Untertrübsee it gets a bit more difficult over rocky hiking trails. For inexperienced riders there is a cable car (Luftseilbahn Alplerseil) from there you can take up. The trail is scenic and part of a Downhill race trail. On top you can bike around Trübsee or take the Jochpass cable car if you want to extend the Downhill part. You can enjoy a cool drink or lunch in one of the restaurants.

Directions: Start of tail is at the Titlis cable car station. Just follow the red biking signs or get a map int the tourist office.

Try out a Via Ferrata

Engelberg has quite a lot of via Ferratas with different difficulty levels. For beginners there are three in Bruni area. Take the Flühmatt cable car and then the chair lift to Brunnihütte. From there follow the signs to the different Ferratas.
The easiest in Brunnistöckli (2030m). Easy walk in and very short. Good for families. It has two hanging bridges. Then you can do the Zittergrat which has a different route. It is very exposed and steep. It has a vertical ascent at the outset, followed by a traverse along an overhang. It is a good area to practice for a real via Ferrata as it is short as well. Then there is an other easier one: the Rigidalstock, however it has a long walk in and ends on 2593m. Good for pictures from Titlis possible.
