...isn't something it happens easily to a *girl* like me.
If you asked me, say, 20 years ago, when I was travelling like mad, going *boldly, where no woman had gone before* and beyond, working here and there, that I would end up living in London, married and with a kid.....
I would most certainly laughed, very loud, at you.
Still, life teaches us many lessons, we change in ways we have never thought possible, we keep learning, never stop, so here I am. In London, mum to a gorgeous 11 years old girl.I separated from her dad after over 10 years together, 3 of which spent in northeast Brazil.
I was born with a double hip dislocation, told I would not walk ever...but my mum (a Syrian determined woman!) had other plans, my parents took me all over the world until finally I did (walk) aged 5. From that one, there is no stopping me.
I was a performer (singer, actress and dancer) for over 30 years, doing all sorts of paralel work like tour guide, beauticien, baby sitting, cleaning, waitressing...you name it, I ve done it :) You have to do so if, like me, you wanted to see the world!
I had a hip replacement gone wrong in 2003, followed by 3 other operations which failed to fix me, but I'm still trying to get back into normal life, though most of the time I use crutches to go out, sometimes the wheelchair, I'm looking into a new proffesion.
I am not sure how to describe the city, what to say that has not been said before...
As a latin, the thing that amazes me the most is the old architecture, the years and years of history written in the streets, the green spaces, the parks, the view from Waterloo bridge......
There is also the cultural side of London.
I was a performer, still, in my first 10 years here, I couldnt afford to go to the theatre, but then, a couple of years ago, we found with my daughter (who studies performing Arts too) The Official London Theatre web page.....
they have offers very often for main stage productions, from amazing plays at The Globe to the now fasionable Sound Of Music or Grease....not forgetting Phantom Of The Opera and Les MIserables.
Theatre seats dont come cheap, so it's worth keeping an eye in the page.
There are many attractions for free, like The British Museum, The new (1996 or 7?) British Library, The South Bank exhibitions and many more, and everywhere they will make wheelchairs available and give a helping hand....but I'm sure all this have been said before.
One place which is becoming big centre of the pop/indie world music and arts in general is the area of Camden Town and Camden Lock.
I have read thay are planning a *road of fame* similar to the US one, for the music here in Camden.
You can have a walk along the cannal, go shopping at the huge Camden Lock market which will carry on into the Stables Market, have a coffe or eat any kind of international food, take a cannal boat cruise, or end up the night in the many pubs which gigs or clubs.... one very big is the KoKo, former Camden Palace, wher big names like Maddonna staged shows in the past and recently.
I am sure I will (if possible, not sure how this works) come back to add more info, but for now I can only say I am happy to live in this city :)
A note about my travel pages: I didnt realise how the editing thing was, so I havent written in many of the pages, though I marked them in the map. I started to sort it now, so, please, be patient with me and I will edit it all, and add more places to the map once the ones there have been written!!!
Thanks for your visit!!!!! :)
By underground, Nothern Line (the black one) , otherwise an enormous amount of buses come here.
Taxis are expensive....
...Camden.....
worth a visit.
all in all, not the best pictures I have taken, but I tend not to go out taking pics in London now...
I will try to find better...
