Haruku, the other Lease Island

Maybe not so well know but even a nice place east of Ambon is Haruku island.

Coming from Ambon to Saparua, or going back the ferry will sail around it. Its depends of the wind and weather- the captain will take the route in the calm lee if the island.

It will maybe from Tulehu in Ambon or from Haria in Saparua only half a hour with speedboat, with ferry a little longer.

Here our ferry pass coming from Haria in Saparua at a sunny morning Harukus southcoast to Banda see.

At Photo with one village hidden insight the valley here. If i`m remember, it is the village Oma. Additional at photo the nice panorama seen from ferry.

The lower photo is while passing the north route while stronger south wind drives big clouds over the island coming from Banda sea. In than case the capt`n had to drive his boat in the calm "lee" site of the island. All seen here is at late morning. Later at afternoon some showers will come.

But it`s a pity- the ferry to Saparua- Ambon stops not at Haruku and so we had only the view to the northern or southern coastline within reach.

So maybe more about Haruku maybe than later again! Or another VT Traveller will write soon more-( or of course in Wikipedia and Youtube)

At raintime the waves by monsum from of deep Banda See comes very stormy at this beach - see the cliffs.
On the other hand the landfall of the island south coast is full of green tropical trees, very nice.

History and today in Pulau Haruku

In the little tourist information "Lease Islands" of the Maluku Provincial office is mentioned
"the old Dutch Fortress in Pelauw in North Haruku,
build by A. de Vlaming Van Oudshoorn
in year 1656"
today a place remembering at remembering history of the sailing century with ships coming all around from Europa dan Asia for interest to trade for to get the desired spices: The cloves/ "neltjes" / "bunga cengkeh" (eugenia aromatika).

In the tourist information of Maluku are named 12 villages (desa):
-Desa Pelauw,
-Desa Kariu,
-Desa Ori,
-Desa Hulaliu,
-Desa Aboru,
-Desa Wassu,
-Desa Oma,
-Desa Haruku,
-Desa Sameth,
-Desa Ruhomoni,
-Desa Kabau and
-Desa Kailolo...

And if I remember the map, all that villages are like pearls roundup the coast line-
same as in pulau Saparua, the other Lease Island east of Amboina.
