1 JUST WALK AWAY if you see them approaching you then walk, ignore them, be deaf. if they follow then run, you are doing nothing wrong and its totally within your rights to run places... ure a busy person afterall. to be honest, after a while following you would be unprofitable for them so its not as silly as it sounds.
2 JUST SAY NO if no is all you say, they'll get absolutely nowhere "where are you from?" "no" "can i draw you?" "no" sounds childish, but it works very well around the ifel tower.
3 AFFECT A STRONG ACCENT, anyone should be able to mimic some accent or another. Whether its scottish, scouse, or west country, just make it as inaudible as possible and act slightly confused but confident about what you say. many vendors wont be able to understand you and this will make turning them away alot more easy. Most will speak very good english and if you start chatting to them, its harder to say no.
4 THEY'RE NOT NICE PEOPLE theyre only after one thing and thats your money, for a lot of english people, for anyone to take an interest in them is flattering, for me it was "where do u come from?" forget it, they arent interested in you whatsoever, trust me.
5 FAKE A COUGHING FIT, stagger away desperately to find some water. make sure the water is far away and they are not offering it to you.
6 KEEP YOUR HANDS IN YOUR POCKETS the only way they can really get money off you is if they actually give you something, if you keep your hands rigidly in your pockets then this is impossible for them to do.
7 WEAR SUNGLASSES it makes you look more like a tourist, but you can hide behind them, if they cant see your eyes you have the upper hand! think about it.
8 ANNOY THEM If you've really been had, make it worth their while. Harass them, stand there, talk to them for as long as possible follow them, see how long it takes for them to get really uncomfortable. it'll slow down their profits for the day and freak them out as it probably doesnt happen at all. if you're really cheeky try and sell them something.
