We woke up before the sun rose, a little hungover from our wedding the night before, in order to make our flight. We were excited about our upcoming trip but were also exhausted from the wedding and from the previous year of planning for our big day. Needless to say, we were a little cranky. When we got to the island we stood in the heat and humidity for several hours while we worked out a fiasco at the car rental company (not their fault). Finally, we were on our way. My husband had to adjust to driving on the opposite side of the road AND the opposite side of the car! Thank goodness we booked an automatic! We stopped at a grocery store in town and loaded up on snacks and rum and headed for the east end. By this time it had gotten dark, which made the driving even more difficult, and we began to argue over his driving abilities and my co-pilot abilities. To make matters worse, crabs began to cover the streets and maneuvering around them was difficult. FINALLY, we reached our hotel only to find that we had not gotten the room we were expecting...instead of an ocean view we had a view of the back of a pool house! We were so upset. We decided to check with the front desk in the morning to see about changing our room and took a couple of glasses of rum on the rocks out to check out the beach. Out on the horizon, thunderstorms flashed amazing light shows, while the skies above us were clear and full of stars. It was beautiful!! We took our first steps in the warm caribbean sea and the exhaustion and frustration from the days events melted away....THIS is how a perfect honeymoon should be.
