I wasn't expecting such a lively city

We spend 3 days in Moura before going to Algarve. Our plans were to use Moura as a base to visit the surrounding area (Barrancos, Serpa...).
We were expecting the normal Portuguese city, some activity during the day but deserted at night. We were wrong.

The Moura families use the hot August nights to stroll around, and meet friends.

My kids loved to play in the "Dr. Santiago" public park, with other kids until midnight!

We stayed in a spectacular (and cheap) hotel

We stayed in the hotel de Moura. The hotel is located in a charming old historic building. The hotel is very well preserved and clean. It has a small swimming pool, ideal after a day trip around the hot Alentejo countryside.

This hotel represents fantastic value for money, if located in a more touristic city it would probably be very expensive.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Good for families. Calm & Relaxing.
  • Cons:If you are a party fan, go elsewhere.
  • In a nutshell:Moura retains the charm of an old outpost city
